Our Lucaya Golf and Beach Resort

This brand new beachfront property lies on 7-1/2 acres of gorgeous white sand beach. Stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds, play in the waterfalls and water slides of the Sugar Mill pool, reminiscent of a bygone era, or take on the challenge of Lucayan’s 18-hole championship golf course rated as one of the best in the Caribbean. The Lucayan guests can also enjoy a variety of culinary venues like Barracudas, a 50’s style American diner with Bahamian flair, or the Arawak Restaurant overlooking the lush golf course greens.

There are 1,350 Caribbean-influenced guestrooms adorned with the rich colorful hues of magenta, teal and fuscia that characterize the Caribbean, blending local flavor with international charm. Each room is complete with air-conditioning, color TV, direct-dial telephone with voicemail, mini-bar/refrigerator, full bath, iron/ironing board, balcony or patio and ceiling fans.

The Bahamas

Close enough to be another state. Unique enough to be an entire country. Intriguing enough to be a figment of your imagination. Instead, she is one of seven hundred. A group of islands known for their beauty. Known for their culture. Known simply as The Bahamas.

It wasn’t until the 19th century that the first permanent settlers arrived on Grand Bahama Island. To make ends meet, most earned a living as fishermen or by harvesting the land for timber. The island population declined during the American Civil War when people fled to Nassau to join the economic boom. But even a mini-boom in the 1920s caused by Prohibition in America couldn’t sustain any momentum.

The island remained sparsely populated until 1955 when a wave of change landed on Grand Bahama Island as American developer Wallace Groves joined forces with British industrialist Sir Charles Hayward. Their vision was to build a tax-free city on Grand Bahama that could support both tourism and manufacturing. The resulting city is modern Freeport.

The innovation of Wallace Groves attracted more investors to Grand Bahama Island between 1963 and 1967 — causing the population of the island to more than triple. Today, tourism remains the lifeblood of the island, and every year tourists come to take advantage of its many attractions and tax-free status.

Our Lucaya’s tropical retreat lies on the southwest bend of Grand Bahama Island, just 55 miles off the east coast of Miami. One of the largest in the archipelago of 700 Bahamian Islands, Grand Bahama Island offers both native charm and international luxury only 35 minutes from Florida, yet drifting in a world of its own.
